“Mubadala Energy”: the second major gas discovery in Indonesia

Abu Dhabi: “The Gulf”
Mubadala Energy, the operator of the South Andaman joint production contract, has announced another huge gas discovery in the Tankulu-1 exploration well, drilled approximately 65 kilometers offshore the northern island of Sumatra, Indonesia .
This is the second deepwater discovery made by the company, as “Tankulu-1” was drilled to a depth of 3,400 meters in water depths of up to 1,200 meters. This feat was achieved a few months following the huge discovery of the “Laiyaran-1” well, also located in South Andaman.
The drilling process of the “Tankulu-1” well revealed a gas column with a thickness of 80 meters in a high-quality sandstone reservoir, where data and rock samples were collected, in addition to carrying out technical tests, analyze pressure data and take measurements. fluid samples. Using an innovative well flow test design, an excellent quality gas flow of over 47 million cubic feet per day and 1,300 barrels of condensate was achieved. Although testing was limited by available testing tools, estimates indicate that the well’s production capacity ranged between 80 and 100 million cubic feet per day and more than 2,000 barrels of condensate.
Mansour Mohammed Al Hamed, CEO of Mubadala Energy, said: “This discovery, which follows our recent success on Laiyaran-1, represents a turning point in the energy landscape in Indonesia and the Southeast Asian region. in general. This also demonstrates that the South Andaman region is one of the most important gas regions in the world. Through our work with our partners and the use of our world-class technical capabilities, we will certainly be able to realize the full potential of this region, while meeting the ambitious timetable set by the government for the development phase. This discovery reinforces our efforts to play an active role in the energy transition, in line with our strategy focused on natural gas.
With an 80% operational stake in the South Andaman concession area, Mubadala Energy owns the largest concession area in the region. In accordance with the company’s strategy, oriented towards natural gas, the “Tankulu-1” well is one of the pillars of the development of natural gas concentrations in the region, as this discovery promises more opportunities in the part south and indicates the possibility of several billion additional cubic feet of gas in nearby traps within the concession area.
This discovery, along with that of “Layaran-1”, will add significant quantities to production, in addition to providing a stable basis for Mubadala Energy Company’s growth in the region through additional exploration and evaluation activities .
