In Vilnius, the opening event will take place in the State Vilnius Small Theatre, in Kaunas – in the garden of the Kaunas State Musical Theater, in Klaipėda – in the Pranas Domšaitis Gallery.
The festival, which will be held until May 26, will invite poetry fans to 136 events in Lithuania, Poland, Switzerland, and the United States, and virtual bridges will provide an opportunity to meet poets living in Denmark, the United States, the United Kingdom, Mexico, and Germany, the organizers announced.
According to them, “Poetry Spring” is perhaps the only opportunity to get acquainted with a detailed panorama of contemporary Lithuanian and world poetry during the two weeks of May. Live meetings with poets of various generations are waiting for you all over Lithuania – both recognized masters and beginners. Readings, conversations regarding literature, evenings of poetry and music, concerts of singing poetry, literature lessons, hours of sacred poetry, poetry performances, excursions, exhibitions are planned.
Poetry readings will take place in the libraries of cities and towns, their courtyards, squares, parks, gymnasiums, galleries and elsewhere.
The poetry of the classics of Lithuanian literature will be heard in their homelands, memorial homesteads, museums, at monuments in Prienai, Alytus Skuodas, Kaišiadorių, Kaunas, Radviliškis, Šiauliai, Vilkaviškis and other districts and in the Writers’ Club.
Prominent poets from Estonia, Latvia, Poland, Japan, Ukraine/USA, France, Romania/USA, Slovenia are coming to “Poetry Spring”.
An international conference of poets and critics “Signs of the times in poetry” will be held at the Writers’ Union.
Poet, publicist Vytautas Kaziela was announced as the 60th laureate of the festival. He will be awarded for the book of poems “Don’t Open Your Eyes, Lord”.
Poet Ieva Rudžianskaitė won the Maironis prize for her poetry collection “The Thirteenth Month”.
Other literary prizes will also be awarded at the festival: Salomejas Nėries, Jonas Aistis, Dioniz Poška, Zigmos Gėlė, Vilnius City Mayor’s Prize and the “Poezijas Pavasaris” organizer’s prize for the best poetry book for children.
In addition to bonuses, creators will be awarded with various prizes – for essays in almanacs, for translations of Lithuanian and world poetry, for the dissemination of literature, the actor-reader will be awarded the Laimonos Noreikas prize, etc.
“Poetry Spring” has been held every year since 1965. The first festival was organized to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the death of the poetess S. Nėries, it is organized by the Lithuanian Writers’ Union and the Writers’ Club.
