The inhumane conditions of systematic abuse of Palestinians in an Israeli military base that functions as a detention center in the Negev desert, CNNi reveals, citing the testimonies of Israeli informants.
“A stench filled the air and the room was buzzing with the mutterings of the men,” said the Israeli who was at the facility,
“Forbidden to speak to each other, the prisoners mumbled. “The guards were instructed to shout ‘uskot’ – ‘shut up’ in Arabic – and pick out people who were problematic to punish them,” he added.
The revelations of the Israeli whistleblowers who spoke at the risk of their lives, as noted in the publication, are shocking. Among other things they talked regarding medical procedures sometimes being performed by poorly qualified doctors, with the hell described as a “paradise for practitioners” in a place that “”fills with the smell of neglected wounds left to rot”.
Witnesses say the facilities are regarding 20 kilometers away from Palestinian territories. They are divided into two parts, a hell for regarding 70 Palestinians, but also a hospital where the wounded are “kept tied to their beds”.
“They were stripped of anything that resembled human beings,” said one informant, who worked as a doctor. “The beatings were only for revenge and not for information gathering.”
What does the IDF answer?
For its part, the IDF claims that laws guarantee the proper treatment of detainees. In fact, sources from the Israeli armed forces report to CNN that the Department of Criminal Investigation immediately begins investigations “even on suspicion of inappropriate behavior.”
“Prisoners are handcuffed based on the level of risk they represent and their health status. The incidents of illegal use of handcuffs are not known to the authorities”, they add.
