At the annual meeting with the diplomatic corps of foreign countries, the head of the country said that Russia’s behavior will not change in the near future, therefore the West must strengthen its security and defense capabilities, provide full assistance to Ukraine, primarily military.
“Empathy and moral support alone are not enough to win this war. The entire international community needs a clear strategy and commitment to the victory of Ukraine. To help others, we must ensure that our own security is strong and that our deterrence and forward defenses are robust. We have to ensure that NATO remains the strongest alliance”, G. Nausėda is quoted in the Presidency’s statement.
The head of the country also emphasized the most important aspects of this year’s EU agenda – the start of EU membership negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova, the provision of long-term financial support to Kyiv, and the continuation of the policy of sanctions once morest Russia.
The President thanked Germany and the United States of America for their firm commitment to the security of Lithuania and the entire region, as well as other NATO allies for the deployment of military forces in Lithuania and cooperation in the field of defense.
G. Nausėda emphasized that Lithuania is proud to currently preside over the Three Seas Initiative (3SI), a regional cooperation format that unites like-minded countries between the Baltic, Black and Adriatic seas.
