Since 1996, May 10 has been the day of birds and trees. But earlier, on May 19, 1902, the European states concluded an agreement in Paris for the protection of birds useful in agriculture. Ornithologist István Chernel organized the first day of birds and trees in Hungary this year. The holiday was introduced only a few years later at the initiative of Otto Herman. The II. After World War II, this day was forgotten, in 1994 it became a national movement once more.
The Sándor Petőfi City Library, which won the Green Library Award in 2019, is offering bird-loving families a useful pastime on the occasion of this significant day on Saturday, May 11. In the Children’s Kingdom, those with skillful hands can make little birds out of paper. Families can test their skills: in addition to the traditional toto, they must also recognize bird sounds. Correct solvers are rewarded. István Zzirmik performs tales from different parts of the world, the protagonists of which are sky wanderers. Participants in the program can even meet live pigeons, as there will be a pigeon presentation and flight.
It can be viewed in the rental area Mónika Mónus Banosné exhibition, who immortalized the birds of Gátér and Félegyháza in his photographs. At the end of the morning program, a fire enamel badge can be purchased as a souvenir, with which the Hungarian Ornithological Association is supported.
