THE problem of single tuition fees (UKT) at various universities is once more widespread in Indonesia. Responding to this, the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs (Menko Ekonomi) Airlangga Hartarto said that currently the government has issued a super deduction tax to help with education costs, especially vocational education.

“In the future, to achieve a short-term Golden Indonesia, our schools will take vocations. There the government will issue a super deduction tax of 200%,” said Airlangga in Jakarta on Saturday (11/5).

With this regulation, the business world and industrial world (DUDI) are encouraged to be actively involved in developing vocational education and training through the use of super tax deduction incentive facilities.

Vocational education itself, continued Airlangga, plays a very important role in creating technical human resources (HR).

“Yesterday it was made easier because previously there were concerns from corporations regarding audits and so on. The Minister of Finance also made the process easier so of course it is hoped that this can start to be utilized. If we utilize vocational human resources, of course for chip production we need people who are truly technical and technical skills are produced by vocations,” he stressed.

Regarding financing for human resources who wish to continue their higher education abroad, Airlangga stated that currently the government has also provided an Education Fund Management Institution (LPDP).

“We ask that the LPDP will be given special priority learning, including those related to digital and micro-electronics because that will encourage further economic growth,” he said. (Z-2)
