Unai Emery will remain as Aston Villa coach until 2027 following signing a contract extension, the club announced yesterday.
Emery has revived the Premier League team, one that was reeling from relegation when he took over last season.
Under the leadership of the Spanish coach, Villa is currently in fourth position in the Premier League and seeks to qualify for the next Champions League. Emery also has the Birmingham club in the Conference League semi-finals.
In a summer in which Liverpool, Barcelona and Bayern Munich will seek to appoint new coaches, Emery has agreed to an extension to the agreement he signed in October 2022.
“We are enjoying our journey together with the Villa fans, the club owners, the management and this great group of players of whom we are proud,” Emery said in the statement announcing the extension. “We share the vision of the owners.”
Emery took over from Steven Gerrard, who was fired following a run of just four wins in 22 English league games over two seasons. He left Villa just above the relegation zone, separated by their best goal difference.
After arriving from Villarreal, Emery led Villa to seventh place and qualified them for Europe for the first time since 2010. Villa did not specify the length of his spell at the time of his hiring in 2022.
“We must maintain the spirit of work, intelligent decisions and coordination with the owners that we have found during this time,” said Emery.
Emery, 52, has won four Europa League trophies — three times with Sevilla and once with Villarreal. He also won the French league title at the head of Paris Saint-Germain.
