Charlotte Perrelli is back on the Eurovision stage.
As previous winners and diva extraordinaire she offers no less than three appearances during the Eurovision week – two of them during the second part of the competition, the third during the grand final on Saturday – wearing different looks, of course. She does not disappoint lovers of Eurovision fashion, as always La Perrelli has put a lot of thought, time and money into even the visual part of the show.
“The dress I’m wearing during the Eurovision final is so beautiful! It is blinged out and the back is completely bare. It’s quite tight, the idea was at first that we should make a calmer song than the one we’re singing now – and then I had intended to just stand and be cute. But the plans changed and now I’m going to go around wreaking havoc… So we had to make a crack so I can move.” Charlotte Perrelli here with Carola and Conchita Wurst. Photo: Jessica Gow/TT
It’s worth putting down a small fortune
Regarding the sparkling and glittering stage clothes, she says:
– I want to have a common thread through my three appearances: I invest in stones the whole damn way, I bling like a disco ball, says Charlotte.
“My first look from the second dolphin final is a nod to my pink kick suit from when I won 25 years ago – now I’m wearing a new kick suit, but this time all in sparkling stones.” Photo: Jessica Gow/TT
There are 300 million people watching, then it’s all in that counts

The three garments are all specially made by the brand Albina Dyla in collaboration with Charlotte.
– I found them online. It is a mother and daughter who started their business in Bosnia during the war. They started sewing clothes in the 90s and have expanded in stages – today they are based in the USA and have 300 employees. It is so beautifully made, everything is hand sewn and I have been involved in the design process so they are perfect for my performances.

This sounds undeniably expensive – and it is.
“A trendier look from the second dolphin final, if you can now call something trendy in this world of glitter that stands a bit on its own. The first time I saw it I thought ‘no, this doesn’t work, this is wrong!’. It was a bit longer then and felt a bit ‘aunty’. But then we fixed the shoulders a bit and shortened it and now I think it’s incredibly nice.” Photo: Jessica Gow/TT
– I haven’t been to Eurovision for 16 years. It’s the 25th anniversary of my win. It was time to go all in and it’s worth putting down a small fortune. Embroidery by hand and tailoring costs money and many months of work are behind it.
– I put my whole soul into it when I say yes to Eurovision. I would never do this half-heartedly – when I get there, everything is in place. The singing, of course, but also the clothes, the look… Giving the audience a show on all levels is the goal and that’s why I’m there.

The compensation she as an artist receives from Eurovision for her performances is not enough in the context, but Charlotte sees it as an investment in herself and her career.

– There are 300 million people watching, then that’s it all in which concerns. In addition to several months of work with the clothes, nails must be fixed, sun showers must be done, new hair extensions down to the bum, the makeup look must be applied… There is so much preparation for these minutes that I am on stage. When I put in so much time and work, I want it to be good. But I really love the preparatory work, says Charlotte.
