Marcel Ondele, Secretary General of the Central African Banking Commission (COBAC) and Rodrigue Bissielou, new National Director of the Bank of Central African States (BEAC), Gabon section officially took up their duties on Friday in the capital Gabonese.
The ceremony was chaired by the Minister of Public Accounts, Charles M’ba in the presence of the Governor of the BEAC, Yvon Sana Bangui.
Danielle Patricia Manon, promoted to Deputy Secretary General of COBAC, was also installed on this occasion.
Created on October 16, 1990, COBAC, considered as the policeman of CEMAC banks, is responsible for ensuring compliance by credit institutions with the legislative and regulatory provisions decreed by the authorities, by the Central Bank or by itself. It sanctions the breaches observed.
Having entered into activity on January 22, 1993, COBAC is chaired by the Governor of the BEAC, assisted by the Vice-Governor. A General Secretariat, headed by a Secretary General, assisted by a Deputy Secretary General, ensures administrative permanence. Its headquarters is in Libreville.
For its part, the BEAC is the common central bank of the 6 member countries of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC) which manages the common currency of these States, the FCFA known as XAF unlike the FCFA XOF of the ‘West Africa. Cameroon, Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Central African Republic and Chad are the six member states of the BEAC. Each member country has a national headquarters of the BEAC. These new leaders were appointed during an extraordinary session of heads of state of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC) held on April 9 by vision conference.
