Ferrari Team Principal Frederic Vasseur has expressed his belief that the top position and dominance of the Red Bull team is starting to be threatened by other manufacturers such as his team and McLaren.

This follows Lando Norris (McLaren)’s first victory at the Miami Grand Prix, as well as two Ferrari drivers, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, who have consistently been in the front row in every racing series this season.

“I think McLaren and us (Ferrari) might be able to trouble Red Bull a little (this season),” said Vasseur as reported by Antara, Friday (10/5).

This confidence also comes from the fact that Red Bull lost two of the opening six races of the 2024 Formula 1 season. The first non-Red Bull victory of the season was from Sainz who won at the Australian GP.

This is certainly very different from Red Bull’s dominance last year, where sensationally the manufacturer together with Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez won 21 of the 22 races.

Furthermore, Vasseur believes that Red Bull still has a chance to win the upcoming races, however, it is important to remember that other teams are also continuing to develop technical and non-technical aspects in order to shift the confidence of the defending champion team.

“When we are able to do a good job and do everything together, we are on the right track. That means we put a little pressure on them, and they have to be more aggressive in strategizing,” said Vasseur.

“They (Red Bull) are no longer in the comfort zone they were last year. I think, this is an opportunity for us. If we can make another small step, I think we will be in a very good position to compete with them every weekend ,” he said.

Despite losing in Miami, Red Bull still leads the constructors’ standings with 239 points, 52 points ahead of Ferrari and 63 points ahead of McLaren.

Meanwhile, the seventh round of Formula 1 2024, namely the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, will take place at Ferrari’s home ground, namely the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari or Imola Circuit, on 17-19 May. (Z-6)
