A NUMBER of United States senators have threatened to impose tough sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICJ) and its prosecutor, Karim Ahmad Khan, if they issue an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The court is currently investigating alleged war crimes and human rights violations committed by Israel once morest the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
“We would like to respond to reports stating that the International Criminal Court (ICC) may issue international arrest warrants once morest prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other Israeli officials,” said a letter from a number of US senators to the ICC.
“These actions are unlawful and have no legal basis, and if carried out, would result in severe sanctions once morest you and your institution,” the letter stated, as announced by Senator Katie Boyd Britt.
Apart from Britt, the letter published by Politico media, Monday (6/5), was also signed by Senators Tom Cotton, Mitch McConnell,
Marsha Blackburn, Ted Budd, Kevin Cramer, Ted Cruz, Bill Hagerty, Pete Ricketts, Marco Rubio, Rick Scott, dan Tim Scott.
The senators, who all come from the Republican Party, consider Israel’s aggression in the Gaza Strip to be a justifiable act of self-defense.

Therefore, they criticized the ICC for allegedly issuing an arrest order once morest Netanyahu.
“Issuing an arrest warrant once morest the Israeli leadership, apart from being unjustified, would also demonstrate the hypocrisy and double standards of your organization,” the US senators said.
Last week, US media reported that the ICC may soon issue arrest warrants once morest Israeli officials including Benjamin Netanyahu, defense minister Yoav Gallant and top Israeli Defense Forces officials. (Ant/Z-1)
