Polluting emissions below the critical threshold with the artificial intelligence of Yunex Traffic

A new way of moving on urban and extra-urban roads, with the primary objective of reducing the levels of pollution (fine dust) and congestion (queues) produced by traffic in large metropolitan areas. Two emergencies destined to worsen everywhere in the world, with the urban population constantly increasing. Taking up the challenge to develop a new mobility model, also thanks to the use of artificial intelligence, is a German company acquired by the Mundys group during 2022 from Siemens.

The company in question is called Yunex Traffic, little known to the general public but very well known and highly appreciated by professionals. With around 3 thousand employees, Yunex is a world leader in the Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) market, whose products and platforms for managing traffic flows and urban mobility are used in over 600 cities (including Singapore, Bogota, Abu Dhabi, Prague) and on 4 continents: Europe, the Americas, Asia, Oceania. Among Its devices there are also intelligent traffic lights to optimize traffic and effectively reduce emissions.

Now, the Mundys group (8.6 billion in revenues in 2023, +16% on 2022) is also launching Yunex on the Italian market, opening a specific division: Yunex Traffic Italy. At the head of the new structure will be Gino Franco, to guide intelligent and sustainable mobility in Italy. As a first step, Yunex Italia has signed an agreement with Municipia, a company of the Engineering group, to accelerate the digital transformation of urban mobility in Italy, immediately pooling their respective solutions.

A choice in line with the sustainability strategy indicated just over a year ago by Alessandro Benetton, vice-president of Mundys and president of Edizione (majority shareholder of Mundys with 57% of the shares, while 37.8% belongs to Blackstone ). The Mundys group, led by CEO Andrea Mangoni and chaired by Giampiero Massolo, is active in three large business areas: airports (including Rome Fiumicino), motorways and mobility services. And Mundys, through Yunex, is aiming to become a key player in the future urban mobility ecosystem. Yunex, in particular, is the spokesperson for a new concept of mobility, destined to transform cities, making road networks and traffic safer and more intelligent, for the benefit of people and the environment. Let’s see some concrete applications.

Concrete applications

An example of efficiency is that of Wiesbaden, a city in Western Germany with around 300 thousand inhabitants, where Yunex Traffic has installed a traffic management system that combines mobility data with real-time environmental data, to develop predictive analyzes on the quality of traffic air, and organize traffic flows in advance, optimizing them and ensuring that emissions do not exceed the pre-established threshold. Thanks to the Yunex treatment, data shows that nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions in the city have been reduced by between 15% and 30 percent.
