NETHYORK – Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, stressed that granting Palestine full membership in the United Nations is an opportunity to at least partially correct a historical injustice once morest the long-suffering Palestinian people.
Nebenzia added in a speech during a session of the UN Security Council regarding Palestine’s admission to the United Nations, on Friday, that the consequences of Israel’s actions, which are covered by the United States, will continue to be felt for many years, and the Palestinians will need the combined efforts of the relevant United Nations bodies.
The Russian delegate said in his speech: “We are convinced that full membership of Palestine in the world organization would help equalize negotiating positions with Israel, which obtained this full status more than 75 years ago.”
He explained that granting Palestine full membership in the United Nations represents “an opportunity to correct, at least in part, the historical injustice once morest the long-suffering Palestinian people, who have lost an unprecedented number of civilian lives over the past seven months.”
The Russian delegate confirmed that his country intends to “vote in favor of this document, in memory of the fallen Palestinian civilians, who, due to the inability of the international community, represented by the United Nations, to stop the bloodshed, did not live to see Palestine obtain full membership.”
He also called on “everyone who does not care regarding their (the Palestinians’) fate and fights for their rights to do the same.”
It should be noted that last month, the United States of America used its veto power to prevent the State of Palestine from obtaining full membership in the United Nations.
