The Permanent Secretary for Educational, University and Professional Guidance (SOSUP), Jérémie Mikombo, also president of the office of the “National Conference on priority professions and training for development”, opened Friday May 10, 2024 in the Special Regime Zone (ZERP) of Nkok (23 km from Libreville), indicated that the question of guidance, school, academic and professional, remains essential to train a competent qualifying hand sought on the job market.

“Guidance should be done by guidance experts, not parents”, Mr. Mikombo made clear in his presentation. He believes that the intrusion of parents in the choice of the learner’s orientation largely contributes to his failure.

The meetings will allow, he underlined, the operationalization of public policy in education and training by identifying priority professions and training for the development of Gabon. This identification should ultimately allow the development of a map to better guide learners from now on.

SOSUP believes that psychologist guidance counselors, who are the only specialists, must now have their full place from pre-primary, to primary, through secondary to university. For the moment, these advisors, whose scope of action is limited, only exist in secondary schools.

The meeting aimed at putting an end to the training-employment inequality, at the origin of the exponential youth unemployment rate (over 38%), was opened by Professor Hervé Ndoume Essingone, Minister of Higher Education.

For him, “the main reason for holding this long-desired meeting is the collective identification and validation of the sectors carrying priority professions and training for the development of Gabon”.

During these meetings which will take place from May 10 to 13, the mobilized experts will define the “mechanisms for promoting corporate internships in public administration” to minimize the recurring failures of learners lacking internships. It will also be a question of defining and “mechanisms for promoting work-study training”.
