Germany – Borussia Dortmund will receive more money if it loses to Real Madrid in the Champions League final, on Saturday, June 1, 2024, in the British capital, London.
Borussia Dortmund qualified for the 2024 Champions League final, at the expense of French club Paris Saint-Germain, following defeating them back and forth with one score, 1-0.
While Real Madrid reached the final at the expense of the other German team, Bayern Munich, by defeating them (2-1) in the return match, at the “Santiago Bernabeu” stadium, following they tied (2-2) in the first leg at the “Allianz Arena” stadium in Munich.
The team that wins the Champions League title receives a sum of money estimated at approximately 20 million euros, while the runner-up receives 15 million and 500 thousand euros.
According to a report published by the Spanish newspaper “AS”, citing the German newspaper “Bild”, Borussia Dortmund will receive a larger amount of money in the event of a loss than the amount of money it will receive in the event of a win.
The report indicated that this comes due to the incentives and variables present in the contract of Englishman Jude Bellingham, who moved from the German team to the ranks of the Royal Team, which benefit Dortmund.
The newspaper explained this fact in numbers, and stated that if Borussia Dortmund loses, it will receive a value of 25 million euros, from the incentives and variables agreed upon in the English star’s contract, which include titles, scoring goals, or the player winning individual awards.
The German club will also receive 15 million euros from the European Football Association (UEFA), which is the value of the reward allocated to the runner-up.
The report indicated that if Borussia Dortmund wins, the club will receive 20 million euros from UEFA, which is the value of the reward allocated to the champion, but it will not receive any incentives or variables regarding Bellingham.
