The 1:7 defeat in the first round of the ÖFB Cup on August 28, 2020 at Austria Klagenfurt became a case for the public prosecutor’s office and was investigated for months. Three people were listed as defendants at the time – according to OÖN information, it was probably a former official who was said to have incited players to perform poorly, and (at least) one player. It is the presumption of innocence.
However, the main suspect had since gone into hiding – and was therefore inaccessible to the authorities. That might now change: The ex-official in question is said to have recently been caught at the Czech-Austrian border. The accusation: He is said to have been the head of a drug gang that is said to have sold 172 kilograms of amphetamines and several thousand pills of ecstasy between September 2023 and May 2024. In addition, he is now likely to face a penalty because of his possible involvement in the betting scandal: According to OÖN information, the trial in the “match-fixing” case will finally take place in August in Klagenfurt.
ATSV Stadl-Paura no longer wants to be associated with dubious transactions from back then: In the summer of 2023, the former chaos club dared to make a new start with a new board in the 2nd class Central-West. “In terms of sport, it’s not that good yet, but everything else is being developed,” says neo-chairman Michael Puchinger. Financially, following the assumed compensation, the legacy of the predecessors is also being worked off: around 70,000 euros have to be paid in three installments: “We are on track.”
