BAKTIEnvironment Djarum Foundation (BLDF) launched the Djarum Trees for Life (DTFL) program. Since Tuesday (7/5), they have been planting trembesi trees on the 32.55 kilometer long Cileunyi-Sumedang-Dawuan (Cisumdawu) toll road.
Planting is targeted to be completed by the end of 2024. Furthermore, the program will continue with care until the plants are three years old.
This planting is a form of collaboration between BLDF and PT Citra Karya Jabar Tol (CKJT). This effort is also a form of collaboration between both parties in implementing sustainable and environmentally sound development, in particular creating a beautiful, harmonious and sustainable atmosphere on toll roads.
The Cisumdawu Toll Road was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo in July 2023. The presence of this toll road is an infrastructure facility which is an important factor in supporting the economic growth of society in the West Java region, especially through connectivity and operational effectiveness of West Java International Airport (BIJB) Kertajati.
This is also the background for establishing multi-stakeholder collaboration to pay attention to long-term sustainable ecological aspects by planting trembesi. This collaboration is expected to be an effective effort to minimize carbon emissions and water absorption for the surrounding environment.
“BLDF is committed to supporting the government in achieving its carbon emission reduction target. “The process of providing trembesi seeds to determining the planting location is the result of collaboration and coordination with CKJT and will be a joint responsibility for the next four years,” said BLDF Program Director Bambang Haryanto, Wednesday (8/5).

Since 2010, he continued, his party has consistently planted raindrops on various transportation routes on the island of Java. These include the north coast route of Java (Pantura), the Trans-Java Toll Road, the Madura Ring Road, Lombok, Medan and the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road which to date has reached 3,361 kilometers.
Collaboration
The trembesi tree was chosen because it is a tree that absorbs high carbon dioxide for terrestrial ecosystems. One trembesi tree can absorb 28.5 tons of CO2 per year.

Apart from procuring trembesi seeds which were prepared from the Plant Nursery Center in Kudus, BLDF also provided the necessary equipment and resources, made planting holes, watered, shaded, pruned, fertilized, replanted trees and other technical planting needs.
Director of PT CKJT Satria Gunawan welcomed the collaboration with BLDF in supporting ecological aspects in the Cisumdawu area.
“Land travel using toll roads is still a favorite choice for four-wheeled vehicle drivers, especially during the Eid al-Fitr homecoming season which has just ended. “Moreover, a number of toll roads provide views that are pleasing to the eye and soothing,” he added.

As the toll road manager, PT CKJT considers that planting trembesi trees is a collaborative step with BLDF that needs to be maintained for its sustainability. “We will monitor it together so that driving comfort will be created, as well as the long-term impact on the environment around the area,” said Satria.
PT CKJT itself has toll road concession rights for the Cisumdawu segment with a concession period of 45 years, namely from 2017 to 2062.
At the initial planting activity, PT CKJT Commissioner Agustinus Sudrajat and PT CKJT Director Muhdhor Nurohman were also present.
In the future, BLDF will always be committed to contributing to collaborative efforts to control climate change.
