An Austrian woman and man were killed on Thursday when a small plane crashed shortly following take-off from Challes-les-Eaux airfield in France. A spokesman for the Foreign Ministry confirmed corresponding reports from French media on Friday. The victims therefore came from Tyrol and Vorarlberg.
According to reports, the 54-year-old was piloting the single-engine aircraft and the 49-year-old woman was on board as a passenger. They had therefore landed in Challes-les-Eaux to refuel before setting off once more. Due to the risk of explosion, a house not far from the scene of the accident had to be evacuated.
