Curacao is hot. Literally, it is almost always around 30 degrees. But also figuratively, because in March 2024 the country experienced its best tourist month ever. More than 60,000 people came to the island and we understand why. We have previously shared a list of 7 original tips to get the most out of your trip. But of course there is much more. That’s why today we share four special places, including means of transport, that will help you discover Curaçao. Put them on your bucket list!

1. On the road in Willemstad with the step by step tour

A visit to Willemstad should of course not be missed during your holiday. The Queen Emma Bridge – better known as the Pontjes Bridge – can also be found here. The Pontjes Bridge is to Curaçao what the Eiffel Tower is to Paris. Are you looking for a fun way to further explore the capital? Then go out with Curt van Step by Step . Curt takes you through Willemstad on an electric scooter and shows you the parts you would not normally visit yourself. He knows a lot of the locals and knows where the most beautiful places are. In his tour you skip the famous Punda and mainly go to the Otrobanda side of Willemstad. Otrobanda used to be mainly a poor working-class district. In the 1990s, a large-scale urban renewal project was set up, which renovated the neighborhood. With success, because many of the buildings have been renovated and a number are now listed monuments. Otrobanda is really a must-visit for anyone who wants to take beautiful pictures. The wall paintings are not only colorful, they often also have their own story to tell. The Kurá Hulanda Village is perhaps the most beautiful result of this urban renewal. This ‘village’ has shops, a museum, restaurants and a hotel.

Depending on the tour you book and the time you have, Curt will be happy to show you much more. His route goes along the Koredor, where many local fishermen have their home and workshop. But the Zakito boulevard with street art is also worth a visit.

During the tour you will receive a lot of information from Curt. For example, he tells us that the drinking water in Curaçao is filtered seawater. This has been happening since 1928 with old fossil energy. But from 2025 this must be completely replaced by green energy.

Important tip for during the tour: Apply well! While scootering, the sun burns heavily on your body and you don’t always realize that. Even your hands can burn badly.
