Leverkusen ready for Europa League final | Football

Bayer Leverkusen won the first semi-final meeting in the Europa League 2–0. But following an hour played in the second leg, it was tied.

Two penalty goals from Leandro Paredes brought Roma level in the overall standings.

With barely ten minutes remaining, Leverkusen reduced the deficit thanks to a killer own goal from Gianluca Mancini. Thus, Leverkusen advanced to the final. And not only that.

Beats the record from 1965

Josip Stanisic did not want Leverkusen’s unbeaten streak to be broken. In the 97th minute, Stanisic equalized and the meeting ended 2–2.

Xabi Alonso’s men, who have already taken home the league title, thus break the European record for most consecutive games without defeat, 49. One game more than the Benfica that reaped triumphs in the early 60s.

– We are very proud of this, but also proud that we are making it to the final. We have fantastic weeks ahead of us, says midfielder Granit Xhaka in Viaplay.

In the Europa League final awaits Atalanta, who knocked out Marseille in the other semi-final.
