Interview with KOSTAS LAMPROPOULOS

Attack on the prime minister and the government launched, yesterday, the deputy of Achaia of “Niki” Spyros Tsironis on the occasion of the stance they have taken on the issue of the conversion by Turkey of the Monastery of Chora into a mosque, some 24 hours before the party’s event in Patras (Monday – 18:30 – Trade Association) focusing on national issues and with the presence MEP candidates, he was a catapult speaking on Peloponnisos FM 104.1 and the show “Together in the air… good morning!”

“After insulting Turkey by turning the Chora Monastery into a mosque, the Greek Prime Minister’s visit to Ankara should have already been cancelled. A country must show an elemental punch in its foreign policy” declared the Achaean MP from Niki and added: “In this particular case, just a few days before the Greek Prime Minister met with the Turkish president, Turkey insulted him and Greece. It is a move on Turkey’s part that dynamizes the meeting.

So the only thing the Greek government is trying to do in response is to appease the Greeks?! How is it possible that another UNESCO world heritage site is being turned into a mosque? The Turks are not taking a single step of goodwill. And as we have seen, they walk away from an agreement every time and by the time the plane returns to Turkey, statements have already been made canceling this agreement. The government excels at communicating domestically – that’s why we get slapped by the international community for targeted media – and pushes the agenda wherever it wants. The Greek prime minister had to do the obvious, the simplest thing. To show that he was affected by Turkey’s move and that for our country this is all a matter of honor. What does unnecessary movement on the part of Turkey mean? Is this how the prime minister comments on what happened and continues the negotiations normally? Is the Greek prime minister himself useless following all? And we come to this conclusion because with his attitude we see that it does not currently serve the national interests of Greece”.

And Sp. Tsironis concluded as follows: “This is the agenda with which we must go to the European elections. National issues and the economy, because the world is hungry and has nothing to earn in the first 15 days. Didn’t the same happen with Hagia Sophia when they turned it into a mosque? So we are renouncing our national rights and appeasing the Greeks, while at the same time Turkey continues its expansive and offensive policy towards our country? How can we not say followingwards that our foreign policy has become something to be ashamed of. It is lumbar bending, as Mr. Gerapetritis also bent over during Erdogan’s last visit to Athens.

When we have a President of the Republic who says that immigration will solve our demographic problem and when we have a Minister of Immigration and Asylum who claims in his speeches at the University that we are the children and descendants of the Ottomans, that the Turkish invasion of Cyprus is the Greek fairy tale and that there is a Macedonian language, i.e. everything that the enemies around the country are asking for, how will the Greek then feel safe that his leadership serves the interests of the country? From top to bottom, those who manage the country’s foreign policy have made statements once morest the country!”
