First Quarter Economic Growth Reaches 5.11, Jokowi Expresses Optimism – 2024-05-10 05:47:33

President Joko Widodo (BPMI Presidential Secretariat)

President Joko Widodo welcomed the Statistics Agency’s release regarding Indonesia’s economic growth in the first quarter of 2024. According to him, the figure of 5.11% is a good result, especially in the midst of an uncertain global situation. In fact, several large countries such as Japan, England and several other European countries are now entering the brink of recession.

“This shows optimism that other countries, big countries 1, 2, 3, have entered the brink of recession. Other countries have also seen their growth decline. However, we are capable of 5.11%,” said Jokowi, following inaugurating the Equipment Testing Center Telecommunications (BBPPT) in Depok, West Java, Tuesday (7/5).

He believes that this good performance is largely supported by consumption and investment that continues to enter Indonesia.

“I think this is something to be grateful for because it is supported a lot by consumption, but also supported by investment which continues to enter our country,” said the former mayor of Surakarta.

On the other hand, according to Jokowi, the closure of various manufacturing factories is a normal condition. In business there will definitely be moments of ups and downs like that.

“Because perhaps efficiency, because we are unable to compete with new goods. There are many things. But what is clear from a macro perspective, our economic development is very good at 5.11%,” he said.

The construction of the Telecommunication Equipment Testing Center (BBPPT), which is the largest digital device testing facility in Southeast Asia, is also believed to increase optimism among the world community regarding the development of the electric vehicle industry in Indonesia.

“This is also in order to support that direction. For example, electric cars have already (invested). There are already five companies producing here. Then, there are also 59 companies for electric motorbikes. It’s really big. Without us suspecting, all of them have “I think this will make our electric car ecosystem even faster,” he said. (Z-11)
