Today, Moscow is hosting a meeting of the Supreme Economic Council on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the conclusion of the Basic Treaty of the Eurasian Economic Union, and an expanded meeting of the heads of state and government participating in the union will be held, headed by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The Presidents of Cuba and Uzbekistan will also participate in the meeting as observer members of the Union, and meetings will be held on a small scale.
A set of documents are scheduled to be signed to enhance economic and trade cooperation between the member states: Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.
Following the meeting, an informal lunch will be held for heads of state of the Eurasian Economic Union and heads of delegations of member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States (countries in the former Soviet Union), who will also visit the capital, Moscow.
The Eurasian Economic Union includes Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. Cuba, Moldova and Uzbekistan have observer status.
The Union’s agreements guarantee to all its members the freedom of movement of goods, services, capital, and labor, and the adoption of an agreed-upon policy in the sectors of trade, energy, industry, agriculture, and transportation.
