Vulnerable families in Ñeembucú received food kits

Asunción, IP Agency.- The Government, through Itaipu Binacional, distributed 2,000 food kits (28 kilos each) to assist more than 2,000 families in vulnerable situations in the department of Ñeembucú, affected by the floods caused by persistent rains at the end of April .

Itaipu’s Social Responsibility Advisor, Rogelio Sallaberry, highlighted that the contribution of the Binacional allowed the National Emergency Secretariat (SEN) to benefit a total of: 468 families residing in the Valle Apu’a neighborhood, in the city of Pilar.

As well as 621 families in Tacuaras; 575 families in Guazú Cuá; and another 961 families located in the district of San Juan de Ñeembucú. In total, the Government attended to the most urgent needs of a group of 2,625 families, conforming to 13,125 people, Itaipu reported.

On the other hand, he pointed out that the basic baskets will allow families to have the necessary food on the days when they are isolated due to the climate emergency; and they even contain ingredients that are used to make popular pots. Each basket is made up of provisions such as preserved meat, salt, sugar, oil, noodles, flour, rice and grass.

An updated report from the SEN states that this solidarity operation paid special care to vulnerable groups, such as the commission that brings together people dedicated to the collection and sale of metal waste (scrap); and the people who earn their daily living by selling medicinal herbs (yuyos) on the street.

In addition to direct help to affected families, the cleaning tasks of canals and roads continue in a coordinated effort between the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC), the Army Engineering Command, the Yacyretá Binational Entity (EBY), the Government of Ñeembucú, the Rural Association of Paraguay (ARP) and private companies.

In response to the reports of damage provided by the National Police, in the majority of the districts of the department of Ñeembucú, in the last week of April, the Emergency Operations Center (COE) was created in the governorate.

Once the evaluation was carried out, the districts were prioritized, taking into account the affected population, isolation and amount of rainfall, the report states.
