«In these hours there have been some journalists from Rai, from Tg1 in particular, who have not joined the strike, including the journalist Laura Chimenti who has read the editions of Tg1 which have been subject to very violent attacks and even death threats on social media. I would like the Commission to express its solidarity with the journalists who have decided to work and who are instead suffering aggression due to the climate that has been created by this exaggerated strike.” Rai general director Giampaolo Rossi said this during the Supervisory hearing, regarding the strike on Monday 6 May. “I hope – added Rossi – that the Commission expresses solidarity with the colleagues who decided to work that day”.
«Speaking of colleagues who have been subjected to violence on the web, I underline that very often such attacks are also fueled by some irresponsible statements that are made. We all must adhere to a code of conduct to avoid extremes. We need to be more careful when we say things and we need to be careful regarding mentioning names and surnames because it can cause harm. I express the solidarity of the entire Rai company with these colleagues.” The Rai CEO, Roberto Sergio, said this during a hearing in the Supervisory Committee, regarding the web attacks on the journalists who presented the news on the day of the strike on May 6th.
