Red Bull Racing team racer Max Verstappen said the 2024 Miami GP which took place at the Miami International Autodrome, Florida, Sunday (5/5) local time or Monday (6/5) morning WIB, where he finished in second place was ‘a bit complicated’ .

Verstappen, who controlled the early stages of the race, lost his position to Lando Norris (McLaren), who led the race during the Safety Car in the middle of the race.

Verstappen finished in second place with a distance of 7.612 seconds from Norris who won his first podium in Formula 1 this season.

“Today was a bit complicated. I think when using medium (tyres), it didn’t feel great, we moved away but not as we should,” said Verstappen as quoted by Between.

“Then following we made the pit stop, I heard the lap time the McLaren was doing and I thought, Wow, that was pretty fast!” he added.

“At that time they also switched to hard tires, they just had more speed, especially Lando,” he continued.

However, Verstappen said, “If a bad day is P2, then I’ll take it.”

He was also happy because Norris won his first F1 GP race following a career spanning five years, saying he “deserved” the victory.

“I’m so happy for Lando, it’s been a long time coming and it won’t be his last, so he deserved it today,” he added.

Furthermore, the Dutch racer will work hard to analyze all the shortcomings of the race in Miami to perform better at the Emilia Romagna GP at the Enzo e Dino Ferrari Autodrome Circuit, Italy which will be held in two weeks, precisely on May 17-19.

“I think this was not our strongest weekend in terms of race pace, but we will analyze everything and we will try to come back stronger,” he said.

Even though he failed to win, Verstappen still tops the standings with 136 points, 35 points ahead of his teammate who is in second place, rival Sergio Perez. (Z-6)
