Stamatis Fasoulis spoke on the main news bulletin of ANT1 on the evening of Holy Saturday (4/5), shortly following it became known that Anna Panagiotopoulou “passed away” at the age of 76. The well-known director and actor collaborated with her for many years at the Free Theater, while they already knew each other from the drama school they attended.

“Although I knew the situation, I am shocked. Anna and I were born together in the theater. We thought we would… almost never finish. I lost half my life in the theater”, said Stamatis Fasoulis characteristically and visibly devastated.

Anna Panagiotopoulou was born in Kypseli. Since her childhood she wanted to be an actress. She grew up in a big city environment, which had nothing to do with the theater, while her parents didn’t want her to do anything like that. When she was sent to Switzerland to study, she secretly returned and took the National exams. There he first met Stamatis Fasoulis, with whom he was in the same class.

The late actress and Stamatis Fasoulis were key members of the Free Theater – almost from its beginnings – and starred in its first big hit “And you comb your hair”, which made it known and loved by the general public. They staged performances of a diverse repertoire, from Brecht to Khourmouzi. They got a permanent “roof” when they went to Alsos Pagratiou. At the same time, until then, the troupe participants were engaged in other jobs for a living.
