Ferrari racer Carlos Sainz lost his fourth-place finish in the sixth series of the 2024 Formula 1 (F1) Miami GP at the Miami International Autodrome, Florida, Monday (6/5) WIB following being involved in an incident with Oscar Piastri. This was reported on the official Formula 1 online page, Monday (6/5).
Sainz, who was trying to overtake Piastri when entering turn 17 in the final stages of the race, was slightly unable to control the rear of his Ferrari, causing contact with the McLaren driver’s car.
This contact caused the Australian racer to suffer damage to his front wing and forced him to make a pit stop which left him behind.
After a stewards’ hearing attended by the drivers and representatives of each team, it was decided that Sainz was at fault for the incident because the Spaniard was deemed to have braked too late.
As a result, Sainz was given a five second penalty so that he, who previously finished in fourth position with a distance of 11.407 seconds from Lando Norris in first position, moved back one place in fifth position with a finishing distance of 16.407 seconds.
Sergio Perez, who previously finished fifth, secured fourth place with a time of 14.650 from Norris.
