A fire in a restaurant in Dhaka, 43 people died

A terrible fire broke out in a restaurant in Bangladesh, as a result of which at least 43 people died and dozens were injured.

According to the report of the foreign news agency “Reuters”, the Ministry of Health of Bangladesh said that a fire suddenly broke out in a restaurant in the capital Dhaka late at night, which engulfed the 6-storey building.

A fire broke out at a popular biryani restaurant in Dhaka, which soon spread to other floors, fire service officials said.

Health Minister Samanta Lal Sen told reporters following visiting the Dhaka Medical College Hospital that at least 43 people have died, while another 22 people are being treated in hospitals for burns.

He further said that the condition of all 22 persons is critical.

While the cause of the fire might not be determined immediately, 13 firefighting units brought it under control following two hours of efforts, fire service officials said.

Mohammad Altaf, a survivor, told reporters that he managed to escape the fire through a broken window, adding that two of his companions died.

Relatives of the victims gathered at the hospital to receive the bodies of their loved ones, while some people were seen mourning outside the emergency department.

Doctors said that many people were eating with their family members including children in the building, while the restaurant has several clothing and mobile phone shops, adding that most of the people died of suffocation while several others died in the building. Died while jumping from
