The president of Guatemala, Bernardo Arevaloannounced this Sunday, May 5, that he will present to the Congress of the Republic an initiative to reform the organic law of the Public Ministry (MP), with the objective of dismiss the Attorney General, Consuelo Porras.
During a national broadcast that the president gave at 9 p.m. this Sunday, he stated that the objective of this reform of the organic law is so that the “Public Ministry should not be used as a political weapon once more by any government.”
“I have decided to present to Congress an initiative to reform the organic law of the MP, which will open the way so that the prosecutor is held accountable and removed within the framework of the law“Arévalo said on national television.
He also added that the reform of the organic law seeks “reestablish the parameters of the institution as they were established in the constitutionin addition to preserving its autonomy and ensuring an effective accountability mechanism.
Arévalo, on his national network, encouraged the deputies of the Congress of the Republic to allow the reform, in That way it will be possible to “recover the country’s development aspirations.”
