The Israeli army: 100,000 Palestinians will be evacuated from eastern Rafah

Gaza – The Israeli army estimates that the evacuation operation from the eastern neighborhoods of the Rafah area in the southern Gaza Strip, which began Monday morning, will include regarding 100,000 Palestinians.

Claiming that it is “the last stronghold of the Palestinian factional movement,” Israel insists on invading Rafah on the border with Egypt, despite increasing international warnings of catastrophic repercussions in light of the presence of regarding 1.4 million displaced people there.

Israeli Army Radio said: “According to army estimates, there are only regarding 100,000 civilians in the area that will be evacuated in Rafah out of more than a million people present.”

She added, “The decision to begin evacuating citizens from Rafah was taken last night in a session of the mini-ministerial council for political and security affairs (cabinet).

According to the radio, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant informed his American counterpart, Lloyd Austin, of the decision to begin evacuating Palestinians from Rafah.

It is not clear whether the Israeli army is actually preparing to invade Rafah or whether it is pressuring the faction movement to agree to the proposed deal for a prisoner exchange and a ceasefire.

According to Amos Harel, a military commentator in the Haaretz newspaper, on Monday, “progress in the negotiations may push Israel to reconsider military action in the Rafah area.”

On Sunday, an informed Egyptian source said that the factional movement’s delegation for negotiations left Cairo for Doha, and would return on Tuesday with a final response to an Egyptian proposal for an agreement between the movement and Israel, according to the “Cairo News” channel (private).

Tel Aviv estimates that there are 133 Israeli prisoners in Gaza, while the “faction movement” announced that 70 of them were killed in random raids launched by Israel, which holds at least 9,500 Palestinians in its prisons.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a war on Gaza that has left regarding 113,000 dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and regarding 10,000 missing amid massive destruction and famine that has claimed the lives of children and the elderly.

Israel continues the war despite the issuance of a resolution by the UN Security Council to stop the fighting immediately, and also despite the International Court of Justice demanding immediate measures to prevent acts of genocide and improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
