Kretinga is already the fourteenth city where this sharing service operates. The company “Bolt” and the city municipality are convinced that electric scooters in Kretinga can reduce the number of cars and the amount of pollution and make it easier for residents to plan their trips.

“It is very important that residents have access to various mobility options, and sustainable solutions are especially needed. Electric scooters are a convenient way for people to move around the streets, reducing dependence on cars and promoting a cleaner urban environment. We believe that the scooter-sharing service in Kretinga is a step towards faster modernization of the city’s transport infrastructure,” says Gintarė Liobikienė, an alderwoman of the Kretinga city ward.

The representative of Kretinga district municipality notices that the number of individual cars in the district has been growing recently. According to the calculations of the State Data Agency, there are as many as 655 individual cars per thousand residents of Kretinga district, which is almost 30 percent. more than the national average.

“Our data shows that a significant proportion of users who chose an electric scooter for their trip would have chosen to travel by car if the scooter had not been available. This means that often a trip by electric scooter is more attractive and comfortable for a person than by car. We believe that it will soon be felt by citizens as well,” says Benas Jurlovas, head of operations of Bolt’s sharing services in Lithuania.

G. Liobikienė, the elder of the city council, also adds that the scooter sharing service in Kretinga will be useful not only for residents, but also for tourists.

“From now on, it will be even more convenient for guests to visit Kretinga not by car, but by more environmentally friendly transport – by train or bus, because it will be possible to explore the whole city simply by scooter”, G. Liobikienė notes.

Benas Jurlovas, head of operations for Bolt sharing services, urges residents of Kretinga and city guests to use scooters carefully and be responsible road users.

“For residents who have not used a scooter before, we encourage them to choose the beginner mode during their first trips on a scooter, which ensures a lower maximum speed of the scooter. It is necessary for all scooter drivers to follow important rules – to ride a scooter only alone, to drive very carefully in areas of intense pedestrian traffic, and following the trip, always make sure that the left scooter does not obstruct other road users”, says B. Jurlovas, a representative of “Bolt”.

Taking care of the safety of users of micromobility devices, Bolt has implemented an artificial intelligence solution in scooters that monitors cases of careless scooter riding – skidding, sudden braking, disorderly parking – and warns drivers when it notices them. After the first warning, Bolt shares educational material to help you remember the rules of safe driving. If a second warning is required, the maximum speed allowed for that user is reduced. If two warnings are not enough for the driver to change his behavior, his account access is blocked.

“We urge all residents of Kretinga to be indifferent – inappropriate or dangerous behavior can be conveniently reported in the Bolt app,” says B. Jurlovas.

“Bolt” scooters are used in Lithuania by residents of Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Panevėžys, Šiauliai, Alytus, Marijampolė, Mažeikiai, Kėdainiai, Tauragė, Jonava, Trakai, Kazlų Rūda and guests of these cities.
