Three months following inheriting the throne, the King and Queen of Denmark published their first official portraits. The photographs were taken by photographer Steen Ewald in the royal reception hall.

Queen Mary, 52, poses in an elegant emerald dress with lace sleeves. The stylists carefully worked on her look, giving her an updo and evening makeup with smoky eyes. Special attention is paid to accessories – the palace has prepared a special booklet describing the decorations.

The Order of the Elephant, worn by both spouses, is the highest award of knighthood in Denmark. Mary also showed off a new portrait order featuring King Frederick X – the first to be shown in public and designed for female members of the royal family. Mary wears the historic emerald parure on her head, worn exclusively by queens and which is part of the Crown Diamond Fund. The tiara’s sparkling emerald stones perfectly complement the king’s consort’s bottle green dress.

Meanwhile, 55-year-old Frederick X appeared on camera in a classic dress uniform and white gloves. From now on, the portrait can be seen hanging in government buildings, including Danish embassies and consulates around the world, as well as in courtrooms.

Meanwhile, last month the royal couple announced their first royal trips together. Next week Frederik and Maria will make an official state visit to Norway. In early May – Sweden, and in June-July the Faroe Islands and Greenland. The King and Queen will travel on board the royal yacht Dannebrog.

The yacht was built for monarchs in 1931.
