It seems that “King’s Day” in Amsterdam took another turn for a group of Dutch people! The tragicomedy video circulating online shows the hapless friends emerging soaked from a city canal following their boat overturned during their ride.
As the overcrowded boat began to sink under the weight of the passengers, some jumped to reach the banks of Amsterdam’s Herengracht canal, but most ended up in the water – a sight that was hilarious to onlookers.
King’s Day on 27 April is a national holiday in the Netherlands for the birthday of King Willem-Alexander. Shortly before 14:00 local time and while the celebrations were underway, many Amsterdam residents descended on the canals for the big event. The viral video with tens of millions of views, records the moment when the passengers of other, more seaworthy, boats, watch their compatriots “get wet”.
According to iefimerida, as they approach the shore, some of the boat’s passengers rush to disembark, causing the boat to lose its balance and take on water.
The boat begins to sink along with the rest of the passengers, but the initial panic is replaced by laughter once it is realized that all the castaways are safe and sound.
