ONE of Indonesia’s crypto exchanges, Indodax, is aggressively providing education regarding public understanding of crypto assets. One of them was done by releasing the film 13 Bombs in Jakarta which was shown in cinemas and Netflix.
“This film is not only regarding spectacular actions, but also tells regarding Indodax, as part of the Indonesian crypto ecosystem, playing a role in helping the country uncover one of the terrorism cases involving bitcoin,” said Indodax CEO Oscar Darmawan in a written statement, Monday, May 6 2024.
In the film, Oscar highlights the big challenges faced by Indodax at that time, namely regulations related to crypto which were still immature, public understanding of blockchain technology was still minimal, and efforts to make a significant contribution in this case. “We have struggled to build a crypto ecosystem in Indonesia from scratch, educating the public regarding blockchain and crypto technology, and pushing policies that enable crypto assets to grow and be legally regulated in Indonesia,” explained Oscar.
“When we started in 2015, the price of bitcoin was still under IDR 10 million. Now, seeing the price of bitcoin continue to climb to reach more than IDR 1 billion in 2024 is an extraordinary journey that we have gone through and indicates the high acceptance of Indonesian society towards bitcoin and crypto,” he added.
Not just investment assets
Indodax CTO William Sutanto said the same thing. He revealed that bitcoin is not only an investment asset, but also a tool and symbol of resistance to the injustice of the financial industry.
“This message was successfully translated into film form by Mas Angga Sasongko with the film 13 Bombs in Jakarta. Hopefully apart from providing entertainment, this film will also educate the audience regarding bitcoin and cryptocurrencies,” he explained.
On the other hand, Angga Sasongko, director of the film 13 Bom in Jakarta, stated that this film was born from the desire to share an inspiring story. “We hope that through this film, audiences can better understand the important role of crypto in a social and political context,” he said.
The film 13 Bombs in Jakarta is a concrete manifestation of Indodax’s efforts to help develop the creative industry through film in Indonesia. Indodax also regularly holds the biggest short film festival in Indonesia every year to explore potential and become a forum for young filmmakers to be creative to the maximum. (Z-2)
