The companies officially signed a memorandum to coordinate the project and provide the necessary tools and resources for its implementation, LTG said on Monday.
“We consider Ukraine and Ukrainian Railways as our strategic partners in ensuring the smooth movement of goods between our countries, as well as in expanding export and import opportunities through the Klaipeda port between Ukraine and Scandinavia. We purposefully support Ukraine in its efforts to develop alternative logistics solutions and increasing the competitiveness of business in both countries in the region,” LTG Group CEO Egidijus Lazauskas said in a press release.
The first test flights along the route are expected to take place this year. In the future, the route will be used for regular cargo transportation.
LTG and Ukrainian Railways also agreed to analyze the market potential, prepare the necessary technological and operational solutions, as well as a specific action plan to ensure the proper implementation of the route.
Last May, LTG and Ukrainian Railways agreed to cooperate in the implementation of the Free Rail program initiated by LTG, and a corresponding memorandum was signed in Munich.
Last November, LTG Cargo, the freight transport company of the LTG group, also tested the transport of semi-trailers between Kaunas and Kiev.
Last year, LTG Cargo transported 27.2 million tons of cargo. The company’s revenue last year was regarding 286 million euros, and its net profit was 17.5 million euros.
