SECRETARY of the Democratic Party’s High Council Andi Mallarangeng touched on the political stance of the PDI Perjuangan (PDIP) in the Prabowo-Gibran government. Andi considers it good if a party with great power chooses to become the opposition.
“I don’t know whether Mas Masinton (PDIP politician) is in the government coalition or not. But it feels good if one (party) is big enough outside the government,” said Andi in a virtual discussion, entitled ‘Democracy Without Opposition’, Saturday (4 /5).
The Democratic Party, said Andi, wants a party to be in opposition. So that there is a system of supervision and control over the government.
Apart from that, Andi explained that the Advanced Indonesia Coalition (KIM) really needs the support of other parties to become a majority in parliament. This is because the four parties supporting Prabowo-Gibran only got 48 percent in parliament.
“It depends on Pak Prabowo whether he wants to invite one more or two or three, but I don’t think there’s a need for four (parties),” he explained.
It is known that the NasDem, PKB and PKS parties have given signals that they will support the Prabowo-Gibran government. Meanwhile, PDIP has not yet given its position.
PDIP’s political stance will be announced following the National Working Meeting (Rakernas) on 24-26 May 2024. (Z-8)
