The Prosecutor’s Office once morest the Crime of Femicide in coordination with the National Civil Police (PNC) carried out the capture of two alleged hitmen belonging to the Barrio 18 gang, accused of having taken the life of a soft drink delivery truck driver.

On January 24, Mynor René Alvisúrez died in an armed attack. Alvisúrez shipped products in a business located on 18th Street and 14th Avenue in Zone 1 of the capital, this being the third time in less than a month.

This Friday, the Public Ministry carried out seven search, inspection, registration and seizure of evidence proceedings in Guatemala City in follow-up to the investigation into the attack once morest Mynor Alvisúrez.

According to the investigating entity, the attack once morest the delivery driver resulted from the refusal to receive a telephone number to collect extortion. Three people participated in the attack, including a teenager.

The Prosecutor’s Office determined through videos from surveillance cameras that the two detainees were possibly involved in other armed attacks, where women died.

Among those detained are a minor and an adult, the latter identified as Brandon Emanuel Tzum Sagastume.

Édgar Osvaldo Gómez Pérez, deputy section prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office once morest the Crime of Femicide, explained that in January 2024 an investigation began into violent deaths of women in zones 1 and 5 of Guatemala City.

Gómez commented that the operation of a Barrio 18 gang structure has been established; Furthermore, he said that the detainees belong to different cliques of said gang.

“Let us remember that many of the cliques cooperate with each other to achieve their specific purposes inherent to the neighborhood,” said prosecutor Gómez.
