ASN Candidates Should Not Be Lulled by Political Promises During the Regional Elections

A number of Government Employees with Employment Agreements (PPPK) and State Civil Apparatus (ASN) attended the inauguration (Antara)

TEACHER at the Institute for Domestic Government, Djohermansyah Djohan, asked state civil service (CASN) candidates not to be lulled by promises from regional officials that they would pass the selection process if they supported certain regional head candidates during the 2024 simultaneous regional elections.

“So there must also be enlightenment regarding these ASN candidates so that they are not lulled by the political promises of certain candidates, for example the incumbent who took advantage of this opportunity during the regional elections. CASN recruitment is in the central government,” said Djohermansyah when contacted, Saturday (4/5) .

This is in response to the Indonesian Ombudsman’s proposal to postpone the 2024 CASN selection until the completion of the simultaneous regional elections. There are concerns that the selection of civil service candidates will be used by certain regional heads to gather support by spreading promises of passing ASN candidates who are willing to support them.

Djohermansyah explained that the central government uses a selection system using computer tools which can reduce gaps in the politicization of CASN recruitment. With this system, officials in small areas may be able to take part in determining whether or not ASN candidates pass.

“The CAT (Computer Assisted Test) system is BKN (National Civil Service Agency). So don’t be lulled by promises that it will be passed if you support a particular candidate, invite your family to support it,” he explained.

However, he believes that it is possible that there is a loophole that can be used by regional officials to interfere in the selection process. He gave an example, in the Field Competency Selection (SKB) stage, some used an interview system.

“The problem is if the user interview is carried out by superiors from the OPD (regional apparatus organization). This loophole might be because later there are promises that they will be passed if they support a certain candidate. But this has already passed the general knowledge test held by the central government,” he said. (Z-8)
