Today, Nikos Pappas, parliamentary representative and head of the Finance and Economy department of K.O. of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance.

According to an announcement by SYRIZA-PS, during the meeting issues related to bad loans, commissions and interest rates of banks, lending to small and medium-sized enterprises, the implementation of State support programs, the privatization of shares were discussed public funds in banks, etc.

Nikos Pappas, following the meeting, stated that a frank dialogue took place, during which the whole agenda of the issues affecting the sector was discussed, with each side presenting their positions and their, obviously, different approaches to issues of concern to the economy, entrepreneurship, society. He added that “we recognize that the banks operate within the supervisory and legislative framework, which the State has set and is setting”.

“As SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance we raised issues on three different pillars. We set the following:

The lending problems faced by small and medium-sized enterprises, something we have persistently raised for a long time, emphasizing that banking conditions exclude 96% of SMEs.
Our concern regarding the course and evolution of bad loans, which may have ‘gone’ from the banks’ portfolios, but continue to characterize and influence Greek entrepreneurship.
The already high profitability of the banks allows the reduction of commissions and lending rates”, he said and added: “We emphasized that in the next period we will present a legislative proposal on issues related to the banking sector”. Finally, according to the same announcement, the discussion also raised the issue of the privatization of the shares held by the State in the banks, where the different positions of the two sides were recorded, but also the issue of deferred tax, where we conveyed our concern regarding the amount of. “The main goal of everyone should be to operate within a framework and make decisions that will promote fair development, that will contribute to strengthening entrepreneurship and supporting households,” it is noted.
