England – The British opposition Labor Party called on Conservative Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Friday to call for legislative elections following the party won a new seat in Parliament and dozens of seats in local elections.
In the framework of legislative by-elections that took place on Friday, the Labor Party won in the “Blackpool” constituency, a few months before elections that will be held throughout the country, during which opinion polls suggest that the Conservative Party, which has been in power for 14 years, will suffer a major defeat.
Labor candidate Chris Webb won in Blackpool, obtaining 58.9% of the votes.
Party leader Keir Starmer praised the result, saying that it was not just a small message… and not just a whisper, but a cry from Blackpool: “We want change.”
He added, “Blackpool” speaks on behalf of the entire country, saying: We are tired, following 14 years of failure, and 14 years of decline, we want to turn the page, and start a new phase with the Labor Party.
He added: Britain is looking forward to change, and asked the Prime Minister to leave the country to express its will during the legislative elections.
Results as of midday on Friday indicated that Labor had won fifty seats, while the Conservatives had lost more than 120 seats.
Opinion polls indicate that the Conservatives may lose half of the seats they are running for in England, a total of nearly a thousand seats.
