Italian Foreign Minister in response to Macron’s statements: We are not at war with Russia and we will never send soldiers to Ukraine

Italy – Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Taiani renewed his categorical refusal to send soldiers to Ukraine.

Tayani’s statements came in response to a question regarding the statements of French President Emmanuel Macron, in which the latter returned to raising the hypothesis of sending forces to Ukraine.

Tayani told reporters on Friday on the sidelines of an event in Reggio Calabria (southern Italy): “We have always said that we are not at war with Russia and therefore we will not send Italian soldiers to fight in Ukraine.”

He added, “I repeat that we are not at war with Russia. This is our position and we have never changed our mind. We defend freedom and independence and we also work to build peace.”

In an interview with French President Emmanuel Macron with the British magazine “The Economist”, he was asked whether he was still committed to the idea of sending possible forces to Ukraine, to which he replied: “Absolutely.”

Macron stated, “Paris will have to raise and raise this issue if Russia penetrates the front line, and if a request to do so arrives from Ukraine, which has not happened to date, then we will have legitimate reasons to ask ourselves this question regarding sending forces.”

In February, Macron had stated that Paris would do everything in its power to prevent Russia “from winning this conflict.”

At a conference on helping the Kiev regime, he raised the issue of sending forces to the combat zone, but none of the European leaders or the opposition in his country supported him.

At the beginning of March, Macron also stressed that France has no borders or red lines in matters of support for Ukraine.
