Health insists on compliance with sanitary measures due to the increase in covid-19 cases in Asunción and Central

Asunción, IP Agency.- Asunción and Central have a sustained increase in covid-19 cases, with an underreporting of the number of infections since the majority of people do not undergo the swab because they have mild symptoms of the disease or because they are asymptomatic; For this reason, the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare insists on compliance with health measures and thus prevent them from reaching hospitals.

The director of the Eighteenth Health Region, Robert Núñez, expressed that epidemiologically Asunción and Central have to be evaluated as a whole, due to the constant flow of people that occurs in this area, which is the most populated in the country.

“Many people have mild respiratory symptoms and do not undergo the swab, others are asymptomatic, but are probably positive as well. That is why it is important that they isolate themselves, and hope that the increase in cases is not complicated by an illness that requires hospitalization or intubation,” he added.

He explained that the underreporting of cases in both regions must be multiplied by 10 to the number of confirmed positives, so compliance with health measures to control the circulation of the virus in the community is a priority, with physical distancing, frequent washing of hands and the use of the mask. In the work environment, distance must also be maintained, crews and teleworking implemented.

He stated that the agglomeration of people makes one more exposed to contracting the disease, “when the concentration of the population is greater, it makes contact more frequent, and it also occurs in areas where there is overcrowding due to socioeconomic circumstances.” .

In contact with Radio Nacional del Paraguay, he regretted that there are irresponsible and unconscious people who do not restrict social activities to a certain number of people, so contagions are carried from the social environment to the family and work environment.

“There are groups of irresponsible people who do not comply with the health protocol who share the mate and terere of the same guampa and tumba, they participate in a game of soccer, volleyball and piki volleyball, and then comes the third period. But it does not only occur in an alcoholic environment, even at children’s birthday parties, the health protocol is not respected, since they exceed the number of people allowed,” he added.

He recommended looking for the covid mode of distraction, which implies having other types of recreational activities with the family nucleus, since if a contagion occurs, they are isolated in that environment, they enter quarantine and there the contagion is contained. On the other hand, when one has many meetings with different types of people, there is a high possibility and danger that there will be many cases of infections.

“Let’s not wait until we are infected to realize the seriousness of this disease, and that the increase in cases does not become complicated,” since of the total number of infections, 15% require hospitalization, and as the social and work environment relaxes , cases increase and with it, the number of patients arriving at hospitals, he indicated.

He recommended social groups and people who comply with health measures to put pressure on those who disobey all forms of care. “Everyone has to be responsible for compliance with the measures, since it is exhausting for doctors when people do not take care of themselves and then they have to deal with so many patients.”
