Justice – „Neverender (Starring Tame Impala)“
In 2007, Justice turned my musical world view upside down with their debut album. This was metal, electro, disco, punk, prog rock, hip-hop and house put through the synth and sampler meat grinder and kneaded together into a musical treat. When the big electro wave of the late 00s finally gave way to dubstep and EDM, the French duo served up more digestible musical fare: 80s disco and funk were their new playground. And that’s exactly where Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay go wild once more on their new album. They invited Kevin Parker from Tame Impala as playmates. On “Neverender” the three deliver a sweet psych-disco stomper. In case the genre didn’t exist before, Justice & Tame Impala have now officially created it.
Nxdia – „Jennifer’s Body“
Nxdia (pronounced Nadia) is the new British alt-pop phenomenon. With “She likes the boys” she was already at the top of the FM4 charts. With “Jennifer’s Body” Nxdia is now launching the next attack on the throne. Inspired by the cult film of the same name, the song explores relationship-related dependency, sacrifice and obsession – jocular personal experiences that the nonbinary musician also had to experience. The pop-punk-soaked instrumental gives “Jennifer’s Body” Nxdia’s pain and vulnerability the necessary intensity and urgency. And it doesn’t take two minutes.
Willow Kayne – „Robot Lovers“
“If your cell phone died, would the love die too? Build a world online. Nobody knows the real you.“ With “Robot Lovers,” London musician Willow Kayne paints a dystopian picture of a world in which even an AI-based, perfect partnership does not bring satisfaction. In the constant search for something that does not exist, humanity has forgotten how to accept and appreciate its imperfection. This time, Willow Kayne’s music is based on the alt-R’n’B sound of the 10s. Anyone who had long forgotten Jai Paul, J. Bernardt & Ben Khan now gets a little reminder.
Twenty One Pilots – „Next Semester“
We still have to hold out for another year until John Dun & Tyler Joseph make another tour stop in Austria. On April 13th the two, better known as Twenty One Pilots, will play in the Wiener Stadthalle. They will also present their new album “Clancy” there. Before that comes on May 17th, they released the song “Next Semester” just in time for the start of the semester in the USA. It’s regarding a new start that turns out to be more difficult than expected because of past experiences. Once once more the Twenty One Pilots prove that they are not subject to genre boundaries. “Next Semester” is punk, emo, garage rock & power pop with lots of sing-along or scream-along potential.
