Al-Ahly, Misr and Cairo Exchange companies collected revenues in foreign and Arab currencies amounting to the equivalent of 22.302 billion pounds, since the Central Bank’s decision to liberalize the exchange rate on March 6 until at the end of the exchanges yesterday, last Thursday.
Abdel Majeed Mohieldin, Chairman of Al Ahly Exchange Company, said the company earned foreign exchange revenues equivalent to 12.386 billion pounds during this period, including the equivalent of 6,900 in April alone .

Mohamed Rajaei, CEO of the Cairo Stock Exchange, said that the total proceeds from foreign and Arab currency concessions in the company since the decision to liberalize the exchange rate until the end of yesterday’s trading amounted to the equivalent of around 1.191 billion pounds.
The Central Bank of Egypt decided, during an extraordinary meeting held on March 6, to allow the exchange rate to be determined according to market mechanisms, stressing that the unification of the exchange rate is a very important measure, because it helps to eliminate the build-up of demand for foreign exchange following the reduction of the gap between the market exchange rate and the Formal and parallel exchange rate.
Since this decision, banks and exchange companies operating in the Egyptian market have experienced large inflows of locally traded dollars and major foreign currencies since this decision.
