The Government decided to postpone, throughout Brazil, the application of the Unified National Public Competition (CPNU) tests that were scheduled for next Sunday, May 5th. The measure was taken last Friday (03) amid the concerns regarding the large volume of rain in Rio Grande do Sulwhich has already left more than 24 thousand people homeless.

“The conclusion we had today is that it is impossible to take the test in Rio Grande do Sul”, said Esther Dweck, Minister of Management and Innovation in Public Services. “The safest solution for all candidates across the country is to postpone the test,” she added.

There is no new scheduled date for the application of the tests. The minister assesses that it is not yet possible to define a new forecast for logistical reasons, however, she points out the possibility of releasing updates “in a few weeks, or even less”.

Around 94% of those registered live up to 100 kilometers away from their chosen location for the test, and as the head of the department highlights, the rains led to the cancellation of 96% of bus trips in Porto Alegre. The state of Santa Catarina also started to be affected by the rains, mainly on the border with Rio Grande do Sul.

The terms of the competition do not provide for the re-administration of the test under any circumstances, even in the case of natural disasters. However, Dweck assesses that the notice did not consider “the degree of novelty of this issue”.

According to the most recent updates from the Rio Grande do Sul Civil Defense bulletin, released at 6pm on Friday (03), more than 24 thousand people are homeless as a result of heavy rains in the region. 265 municipalities were affected. The disasters caused 39 deaths and left 74 injured. 68 people are missing.

More than 2 million people signed up for the Unified National Public Competition (CPNU) — also known as the “Enem of Competitions” — throughout Brazil; Of the total, 86 thousand candidates are registered in Rio Grande do Sul. In addition to the candidates, more than 200 thousand employees would work on administering the tests, according to Esther.
