The curtain raised for the sixth round this year Formula 1– World Championship. Travel following a short break Max Verstappen and Co. to the Miami GP on the American East Coast. And the dominant theme this weekend is not the drivers, but Adrian Newey.
It’s the first weekend since red bull made it official: The star designer will leave the racing team in 2025 and until then will focus primarily on the hypercar rather than the Formula 1 car. Does this affect the racing team for the weekend and the rest of the season?

Saturday, 09:18: Have a beautiful good morning. Today, things happen in rapid succession. The sprint race starts at 18:00 and just four hours later the qualifying for tomorrow’s Grand Prix starts.
23:21: Max Verstappen reacts completely surprised by first place. “What happened to the others, my lap wasn’t good,” he radios in surprise. In the subsequent interview, he said of the driving experience in qualifying: “It was terrible. It was no fun driving today.” And yet he comes first once more. This Dutchman is incredible.
23:16/SQ3: But it had also been something. Norris is unable to confirm the form. Only 9th place on the sprint start grid. In front, Max Verstappen was clearly ahead of Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez and a very strong Daniel Ricciardo in 4th place.
23:08/SQ3: There are seven minutes left to decide who will start the sprint as the leader tomorrow.
23.00/SQ2: What did they give Lando Norris’ McLaren? The Brit sets a clear top time in the second section, while Max Verstappen weakens. McLaren’s updates seem to be working.
Out is record world champion Lewis Hamilton and also his teammate George Russell! Esteban Ocon, Kevin Magnussen and Yuki Tsunoda have been eliminated along with the two Mercedes drivers. Also means: Nico Hülkenberg is once once more in the third qualifying section.

22.43 Uhr/SQ1: Not a good home performance for Sargeant. Like his colleague Albon, he is thrown out. In addition, the two Saubers around Zhou and Bottas are thrown out, as is Gasly. Nico Hülkenberg made it into the second qualifying round by just under a tenth of a second.

Because there is a traffic jam behind him, the stewards interrupt the session. Not good news for Ferrari. Your top star probably won’t get any more practice before the shootout.
