The mayor of Recoleta, Daniel Jadue (PC), denounced that the Public Ministry prevented him from traveling to Venezuela last night despite the fact that he is not subject to any precautionary measure, in the framework of the case for the alleged crimes of bribery, unfair administration, fraud to the Treasury, concealment of assets and fraud that will be formalized on May 29 due to its management by the Popular Pharmacies.

The mayor had scheduled the flight to Caracas at 00:30 hours, to participate in the “Meeting towards the World Social Alternative Agenda” together with various intellectuals, organizations and related forces from different Latin American countries.

However, “today they prevented me from traveling outside of Chile for three days. I don’t have any precautionary measures. Prosecutor threatens to arrest me. “This is an attack on democracy and an authoritarian and unconstitutional measure,” Jadue accused on social networks, warning that he will take the necessary legal actions “to stop these arbitrariness.”

Later, in a statement from the Municipality of Recoleta, he assured that prosecutor Giovanna Herrera, who will formalize it, contacted his lawyer to supposedly threaten with a verbal arrest warrant if he boarded the plane.

“It was a very strange situation, because I arrived at the airport, I passed all the controls, they stamped my passport and following the entire process was carried out without problems, a PDI police officer approached me and told me that there were situations to resolve before my journey. There I found out that the Prosecutor’s Office did not want me to travel, which seems very serious to me, since we are facing an unparalleled persecution,” he stated.

The North Central Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office, for its part, delivered its version.

“On April 17 at approximately 10:30 p.m., the North Central Prosecutor’s Office contacted the lawyer of the accused Daniel Jadue Jadue, as it was learned that the latter was preparing to leave the country for Venezuela,” he said. .

In this context, he explained that “because said accused, among other people, is summoned to a hearing to formalize the investigation, for next May 29, the Prosecutor’s Office informed the defense lawyer of the accused that within his legal powers he is “that of seeking and ensuring the holding of the indicated hearing, so it was possible, in this context, to judicially request a personal precautionary measure to comply with the objective.”

“Given this, the defendant’s lawyer reported that his client voluntarily gave up traveling,” he said.

The head of the Anti-Corruption Unit of the National Prosecutor’s Office, Eugenio Campos, defended that “our duties and obligations are clearly established in the legislation, within which, among others, are precisely that the success of the development of the diligence is fulfilled, as Likewise, those people, whether public employees or individuals, can appear in court in a timely manner.”

Regarding the animosity that Jadue accuses of suffering once morest him, Campos stressed that “in these more than 20 years that we have been with the Public Ministry, regarding these arrests, which are very respectful, by the way, we are absolutely calm.”
