Haiti plans to create a National Security Council that will oversee international security efforts, including sending a mission backed by the United Nations (UN).
Haiti is facing a crisis of governance following the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse in July 2021, following which Henri took over the country, pledging to organize new elections by February 2024.
After that deadline expired and elections were never called, Henri was effectively forced to resign in early March when gangs seized Port-au-Prince airport, preventing him from landing following traveling to Kenya to negotiate a security mission. .
In April, Haiti’s Transitional Presidential Council appointed Economy and Finance Minister Michel Patrick Boisvert as interim Prime Minister following the official resignation of Ariel Henry.
In Henri’s message to the Council of Ministers, he emphasizes that he served the country in difficult times and thanks those who accompanied him in this matter.
“I sympathize with the losses and suffering of our compatriots during this period,” he adds.
