The Progress and Socialism Team in the House of Representatives called on the government to cap the prices of Eid sheep, noting that custom required capping the prices in parallel with any support provided by the state.

The team confirmed in an intervention by its Chairman, Rachid Hamouni, during the weekly oral question session in the House of Representatives, that the Eid sheep subsidized for 500 dirhams cannot be sold for a price similar to the price of livestock whose owners did not receive any support.

The team added that “importers benefit from the state’s milk and from free-priced milk,” pointing out that “this requires strict government intervention in order for the support to be reflected in the price of Eid sacrifices, as well as in the price of meat sold in the markets.”

For its part, the Constitutional Team in the House of Representatives called on the government to cap the prices of Eid sacrifices and direct support to male and female citizens to purchase them, instead of giving them to importers.

In an intervention by one of its parliamentarians, the team called on the government to disclose the total price of the cost of imported sacrifices per kilogram, following deducting the subsidy price, in order to determine the selling price.

The team stressed that the price of the sacrifices must be in line with the purchasing power of the fragile and vulnerable class, knowing that they are unique in reviving this religious ritual, pointing out that the purchasing power of these groups prevents them from consuming meat except through the Eid Al-Adha ritual.

It should be noted that the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests, Muhammad Seddiqi, revealed that the number of numbered heads of livestock destined for slaughter during the upcoming Eid al-Adha has reached 3 million heads, with 30 temporary markets allocated to sell livestock.

The minister confirmed that the government opened the door to imports temporarily and exceptionally to increase supply, and to contribute to preserving the national herd, reducing costs, and stabilizing prices, by granting support for the import of sheep, amounting to 500 dirhams per head, starting from March 15 until June 15, and exempting the import of sheep from customs duties. And value added tax.
